Families: Spell Quest at Bodiam Castle

Why bother? Young sorcerers pick their powers, mix potions and cast spells on a wizardry trail around a moated medieval castle straight out of a storybook.

When: Daily, 10am–4pm; last trail 3:30pm. Runs until 1 November.

Where: Bodiam Castle, Bodiam, Robertsbridge, TN32 5UA (about 15 miles)

Price: Trail £3.50, including a small prize, plus admission: adults £13, children 5–17 £6.50. Parking £5 for non-members

Good to know: No need to book; buy the trail at Visitor Reception. Come in costume at the weekend for the best-dressed competition in the courtyard at 1pm.
